Strong Supervisors Build Strong Teams

The Fundamental of Supervision Series equips new and experienced supervisors with the core skills needed to lead teams with confidence and consistency. Designed for first-time managers and as a practical refresher, these sessions strengthen communication, accountability, and day-to-day leadership effectiveness.

The series consists of 8, two-hour courses combining real world-scenarios, discussion, and hands-on exercises to turn learning into immediate, practical application.



The series covers three categories:

Successful supervisors are equipped with training and experience to cultivate positive relationships and help their employees achieve their goals.

Foundational Knowledge
Clarifies the core responsibilities of supervisors and the key federal and state employment laws that guide effective people management.

Respectful Conduct
Equips supervisors to foster respectful workplaces, address conflict effectively, and prevent harassment to maintain a safe, professional environment.

Personnel Management
Builds practical skills across the full performance lifecycle--from interviewing andhiring to coaching, managing, and documenting employee performance.

Supervision 101

Build the foundation for effective, people-centered leadership. This course equips supervisors with a clear understanding of their responsibilities, the emotional intelligence skills needed to lead others, and practical tools to build trust, motivate employees, and foster strong team engagement.

Introduction to Employment Law

Equip supervisors with the practical knowledge needed to make sound, compliant employment decisions. This course translates key federal and Hawai'i employment laws into clear, everyday guidance so leaders can manage confidently, reduce risk, and know when to involve HR.

Learning Objectives

Understand the basic elements of employment law, including:
  • Understand the fundamentals of employment law that impact daily supervision
  • Recognize common compliance risks related to discrmination, leave, wage and hour, and workplace protections
  • Apply best practices to avoid costly mistakes and employee claims
  • Identify when to escalate issues or partner with HR for support

Leading Generations in the Workplace

Lead confidently across a multigenerational workforce. This course helps supervisors understand different communication styles, values, and expectations across generations, and apply practical strategies to build inclusion, strengthen collaboration, and improve team performance.

Participants will learn to:

  • Address stereotypes and unconscious bias

Preventing Workplace Harassment

Equip supervisors to create safe, respectful workplaces and address concerns early and effectively. This course provides practical guidance to recognize harassment, foster a positive team culture, and respond appropriate to complaints and investigations.

  • Recognize and define workplace harassment
  • Promote respectful behaviors across teams
  • Prevent issues through proactive leadership practics
  • Respond confidently and appropriately to complaints

Managing Conflict in the Workplace

Strengthen your ability to address conflict constructively and maintain productive working relationships. This course equips supervisors with practical communication and mediation tools to prevent, manage, and resolve workplace disputes.

Participants will learn to:
  • Identify sources and early signs of conflict
  • Understand their role in addressing issues proactively
  • Apply communication and de-escalation techniques
  • Use structured strategies to resolve and prevent conflict

  • Ask appropriate, legally compliant questions
  • Evaluate candidates objectively and consistently

Building Employee Performance

Help employees succeed through clear expectations, accountability, and consistent coaching. This course equips supervisors with practical performance management tools that drive ownership, growth, and results.

Participants will learn to:
  • Set clear expectations and measurable standards
  • Providing coaching and ongoing feedback
  • Apply positive discipline techniques
  • Create supportive structures that encourage success

Appraising Performance: An Ongoing Process

Deliver fair, constructive evalutaions that reinforce performance and development. This course builds the skills needed to measure results, provide meaningful feedback, and conduct effective appraisal conversations. Participants will learn to:
  • Measure and evaluate performance consistently
  • Prepare for productive appraisal discussions
  • Deliver objective, constructive feedback
  • Use evaluations to support future development and growth

  • Members: $65 per seat, per course
  • Nonmembers: $135 per seat, per course
Private Team Training (Members only)
Bring any course directly to your organization with content tailored to your workplace, policies, and real-world
scenarios. Pricing available upon request.

 

2026 Series Schedule

The 2026 series is offered five times per year in January, March, May, July, and September. Each series runs for four consecutive weeks, with sessions held in both the morning and afternoon.

 The schedule for each series is as follows:

  • January and March: Sessions meet each Wednesday.
  • May and July: Sessions meet each Tuesday.
  • September: Sessions meet each Thursday.

    Participants have the flexibility to enroll in the full series or select individual sessions that best meet their professional development needs.
