Updated Hawaii Family Leave Law Resources Now Available

As previously shared, the Hawaii Family Leave Law (HFLL) has been amended to add qualifying military exigencies as a covered reason for HFLL leave, which takes effect on July 1, 2026. This expansion may require affected employers to update policies, forms, and notices.

To help with these updates, HEC developed resources for employers subject to HFLL, including the following:

  • Sample updated Hawaii Family Leave Law Policy with corresponding memo to inform employees of this change
  • Sample FMLA and HFLL Leave Request Form
  • Sample FMLA and HFLL Notice of Eligibility & Rights and Responsibilities
  • Sample FMLA and HFLL Designation Notice

These samples, along with other helpful resources, are available on HEC’s Resource Library, in the Leave Management section.

HEC members may access these resources at no additional cost and reach out to their dedicated HR Consultant with any questions.

Employers who are not currently HEC members are invited to schedule an introductory meeting with our Sales Team and receive complimentary access to some of our resources. This meeting provides an opportunity to discuss your organization’s needs and learn how HEC supports employers in Hawaii through its workforce solutions.  Please contact [email protected] to schedule your meeting!
