What the Faster Labor Contracts Act Could Mean for Employers
On June 9, 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Faster Labor Contracts Act, a proposal that could significantly change how employers negotiate first collective bargaining agreements. The bill has not yet become law and now awaits Senate consideration.
Under current federal law, employers and unions must bargain in good faith, but there is no deadline for reaching a first contract. The proposed legislation would establish a much faster process.
